Work nearing completion on Alfred Denny Building

Scaffolding and hoardings on the south side of the Alfred Denny Building have been removed, allowing the concourse to reopen for normal pedestrian and vehicle access.

Alfred Denny Building

The scaffolding has been in place following the identification of defects in the brickwork on the south and west exterior walls of the building. A detailed inspection by structural engineers found that the defects presented a potential hazard to pedestrians, and covered walkways were installed to maintain safe routes around the building.

The full scaffold and wrap were installed to allow closer inspection of the building’s exterior and to support the necessary remedial works. While the appearance of the building has not changed, significant work has been undertaken to re-bed and repoint loose brickwork and repair areas of concrete.

As the south side of the building is cleared, scaffolding is being added to the north elevation, facing the Arts Tower, so that remedial works can be carried out there.

All remaining scaffolding is currently scheduled to be dismantled and removed from site by the end of July.

We recognise that this has been a long-running and highly visible project in a busy part of campus, and that the scaffolding and covered routes have caused disruption. Thank you to staff, students and visitors for their patience while this essential work has taken place.
