- Profile
-
Following an earlier career in NHS management, I retrained at the University of Sheffield, qualifying as a Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist in 2015. I completed my foundation training with the Oxford Deanery and worked in practice for a number of years before taking my teaching role here at the University in February 2019.
I received a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2022 and was appointed Deputy Programme Lead of the Academic Unit of Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy in 2023.
I founded an internationally important archive of diverse dental images, Bridging the Gap, in 2023.
In December 2025 I was promoted to Senior Clinical Tutor, and in January 2026 received a Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Trainers, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Continuing my interest in research and governance following my Bachelor's degree in health and human sciences, I took the role of Ethics Lead for the School of Clinical Dentistry in 2021 and Governance Lead in 2025 . I continue to work clinically in practice alongside my academic and teaching responsibilities.

- Teaching interests
-
I have a keen interest in collaboration and communication in education and in particular, the Problem-Based Learning model for teaching. I run an extra-curricular Journal Club for students, which aims to enhance skills and confidence in accessing academic literature. I am highly passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion in dental education and my repository of diverse dental images is accessed by over half of UK dental schools.
Academically, I have a focus on employability, and dental public health. Clinically I have the pleasure of supervising students at all stages of their vocational training and particularly enjoy the process of observation and feedback in order to guide trainee clinicians towards safe and competent registration with the General Dental Council.
