Professor Zoe Marshman - Professor in Dental Public Health
Zoe joined the University of Sheffield in 2002 as a Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Specialist Registrar in Dental Public Health. Since then She completed her specialist training and was awarded a PhD in 2008. Zoe's main interest is child-centred dental research to improve the oral health and treatment experiences of children and their families. She has led, published and presented internationally and nationally many child-centred research projects and is recognised as an advocate for involving children in high-quality oral health research, using innovative participatory methods. She leads the CREATE research theme.
Professor Christopher Stokes - Professor in Digital Learning and Dental Education
Chris joined the School as a University Teacher after completing his PhD in Dental Materials in 2005, being promoted to Senior Teacher in 2009. He has always had an interest in teaching and has worked on a wide variety of School, Faculty and University projects. Chris also has a number of teaching, leadership, and management roles. A selection of these include: Dental School eLearning Coordinator and leading Sheffield’s first Futurelearn MOOC ‘Discover Dentistry’. He also has the role of Cross-Cutting Director of Learning and Teaching (Digital Learning) for the University. Chris’s teaching interests centre around the use of technology to engage learners in dentistry. This includes large projects such as Discover Dentistry, an open online course for aspiring dentists, or projects that look at how technology can support the more focused challenges of teaching dental skills through visualisation and simulation. He is also committed to widening participation in dentistry and works through outreach and online courses to support students in accessing dental careers.
Dr Aileen Crawford - Reader in Oral Science and Regenerative Medicine
Aileen joined the University of Sheffield in 2000 as a senior research scientist on a European Research Project having previously held research positions in the pharmaceutical industry. She then took a position in the School as a lecture in 2006 and her work has grown since then. Aileen has interests in cartilage stem cell and bone biology with multidisciplinary projects using regenerative medicine and tissue engineering technologies to promote skeletal tissue regeneration for orthopaedic and maxillofacial indications. Aileen teaches across the range of programmes in the School and has supervised a number of PhD students. More widely, Aileen serves the European tissue engineering and regenerative medicine community by active service as an elected member of the TERMIS-EU Council.
