Steve Goodacre gave the David Williams lecture at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine Annual Scientific Meeting (with a few familiar faces looking over his shoulder!).
The lecture was titled 'Should we follow the science?'. Steve argued that clinicians should not passively follow the science but should actively engage with research to produce information that helps their decision-making.
He argued that, far from replacing clinicians, developments in computational complexity (including artificial intelligence) increase the need for clinicians who understand how research works and how it applies to patients.
