Project description

The project will address the following research questions:

  • What is the relationship between environmental sustainability and performance results?
  • How can we measure environmental sustainability and performance in agribusiness?
  • How can we implement an environmental sustainability framework considering the improvement of performance results in agribusiness?

The project aims to:

  • Analyse the relationship between environmental sustainability and performance results
  • Identify how to measure environmental sustainability and performance in agribusiness
  • Develop a framework to implement environmental sustainability considering the improvement of performance results in agribusiness

In order to meet the project objectives, the wine industry has been selected, which will have a huge impact due to climate change and the move towards a sustainable orientated transition. This research will be carried out in three stages. First, an exploratory survey of the wine industry in the old and new world of wine. Second, a comparative case studies in Brazil, South Africa, France, and Italy. Third, an application of the tools and evaluation of the results.

The main project which is being developed for an ESRC Grant Open Call application is entitled: Environmental Sustainability & Economic Performance in Agribusiness: a cross-country study in Brazil and UK. As part of our project, international partners have obtained a grant in October 2023 of £10,000 from the Brazilian Agency to finance the part of the project, named ‘Digital Transformation and Transition to Sustainability in Emerging Economy’.
