Working with Sheffield: An enterprising city
Sheffield is our city and our home. Our University has one of the highest retention rates of students in the UK. This means that we have a highly educated population, brimming with ideas to make Sheffield even more prosperous.
Commercialisation has a direct impact on our city. The University’s spinouts are some of the most scalable businesses in Sheffield. Their performance makes an important economic contribution to the city and our region, raising millions of pounds of investment and creating jobs, and will continue to grow.
We’re incubating companies on and off campus. Our state-of-the-art facilities include the Gene Therapy Innovation and Manufacturing Centre (GTIMC) that accelerates the development of gene therapies into life-changing treatments for patients, and the Insigneo Institute that drives innovative research at the interface of healthcare, engineering and science.
We’re also home to the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), a world-leading research and innovation network with more than 120 industrial partners, including Rolls-Royce, McLaren Automotive, Siemens and BAE Systems.
