‘Making an IMPACT’ – how to get evidence used in practice in adult social care

Jon Glasby, University of Birmingham / IMPACT

About the lecture

Adult social care (and other public services) are increasingly responding to the challenges they face by drawing on evidence of ‘what works’ – yet this is the statement of a dilemma rather than a blueprint for the way forward. What constitutes valid evidence, and who decides? Whose voices are prioritised and who loses out? How can services make changes in difficult contexts so that evidence is actually translated into practice?

In response, this year’s CIRCLE annual lecture explores approaches to evidence which include insights from lived experience, practice knowledge and research – and practical lessons for getting such evidence used in practice. In the process it shares learning from the experiences of people who draw on care and support who are involved in making changes to policy and practice, and from IMPACT (the UK centre for implementing evidence in adult social care).
