Belief, No Belief & Religious (BNBR) Life Centre Opening Event

Join us on Wednesday 5th November for the official opening of the Belief, No Belief & Religious (BNBR) Life Centre in our new home at 205 Brook Hill, a building we share with the Campus Trade Unions.

The BNBR Life Centre will have a range of special events through the day, to launch both our new home at 205 Brook Hill and an expanded team of 10 distinct chaplaincies.

The day includes an opening moment at 9.00am and drop ins through the day along with specific religion/belief/no belief events during the day.  Please see below for the fuller schedule.    

8.45am-9.15am Drop-in—all staff and students welcome to visit, meet team members and have a look around.
Please drop in and visit the university's BNBR Life Centre and discover more about its ten distinct chaplaincies, the social and study spaces, the playing piano and the free tea and coffee.  

9.00am-9.15am:  Official Opening 15 minutes with the Deputy VP for Education, the Associate Director for Student Health, Wellbeing and Support and the Estates and Facilities Management’s Relationship Manager.

10.00am-11.00am: Dialogue event: For God and For George: Mythbusting the flag and the saint (Activities)
In this interactive workshop, there will be dialogue about the impact flag flying is having in the UK and a deeper dive into the person behind the myths related to England's patron saint, St George. We will consider whether the current trend of celebrating flags is harm-free or deeply toxic.

11.00am-11.45am: Buddhist event (Gathering) (TBC) 

11.30am-12.15pm: Bagels with the Progressive Jewish chaplaincy (Lounge)
Drop in for some bagel preparing and sampling with the Progressive Jewish chaplaincy team, and gain a flavour of their regular activities on campus.

12.15pm-12.45pm, Meditation (Buddhist chaplaincy), (Gathering)

12.45pm-1.15pm: Drop in—all staff and students welcome to visit, meet team members and have a look around.

1.15pm-2.15pm Christian Chaplaincy Commissioning Service (across road in Richard Roberts)
To celebrate the opening of the BNBR Life Centre a special service will take place, when three new team members will be commissioned and the Bishop of Doncaster, Leah Vasey-Saunders will preach and licence Sue Leather as Anglican chaplain. The service starts promptly at 1.30pm, please arrive at 1.15pm.

2.00pm-2.45pm Try Something New: Muslim Moments (Gathering)
Pop over and give it a go:

* Try a hijab
* Learn about eating dates in Muslim tradition.
* Test your knowledge on Islam in a quiz. 
* Free English Quran gift.
 
3.15pm-3.45pm: Gurpurab and Mistaken Identity film screening (Activities)
5th November is one of the Sikh Gurpurab festival days. This day Sikhs celebrate the birth of the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak. Join us for 30 minutes reverencing the first guru and also watch a screening of the film Mistaken Identity about the lived experience of Sikhs in the UK.
