  1. Why did you choose to study the Corporate Social Responsibility and the Law module as part of your degree?

As someone who is interested in both law and sustainability, the Corporate governance, law and sustainability module is a choice of interest for several reasons. It is increasingly essential for today’s businesses, and understanding its legal implications prepares people for roles in organizations that prioritize ethical practices. I expect this module to help me critically analyse how corporations, society, and the law can function towards sustainability. It also opens doors to career opportunities in compliance, sustainability consulting, and corporate governance which are fields that are rapidly growing. 

  1. What is the module about? 

I reckon it will observe how governance, law, and sustainability are interrelated fields that focus on how corporations are directed, controlled, and held accountable while considering their societal and environmental impacts. Sustainability is vital for achieving responsible business practices that address ecological and social concerns, this aims to foster ethical and resilient business practices that contribute to a favourable outcome and societal welfare.

  1. How does it relate to or approach the topic of sustainability?

Good corporate governance should encourage businesses to consider their environmental and social impacts. Legal frameworks ensure conforming with sustainability goals, helping companies avoid risks associated with environmental harm or unethical practices. By  working on sustainable governance and legal compliance, companies can enhance their reputation in working towards sustainability, and contribute to long-term success of an increasingly conscious market.

  1. What do you like the most about the module?

I think I will enjoy this module because it addresses relevant issues in today's businesses, allowing students to engage and approach challenges like climate change. This fosters critical thinking and collaboration, and case studies of successful companies provide practical insights and inspiration to follow ethical practices. The module enhances valuable skills in critical analysis and ethical reasoning, applicable across various career paths.

  1. In your opinion, does Corporate Social Responsibility play an important role within legal global sustainability discussions?

Corporate governance, law, and sustainability have a vital role when it comes to global sustainability discussions. They outline the frameworks and guidelines describing how businesses operate in regards to environmental and social responsibilities. The presence of corporate governance ensures that companies prioritise sustainability in their strategies and decision-making procedures, and legal frameworks enforce compliance with international standards and regulations aimed at protecting the environment.
