Alumnus Arthur Lello sadly passed away in July 2017 at the age of 87.
Arthur was a three time graduate of The University of Sheffield; earning a BA in History, Economics and Philosophy in 1950, a Diploma in Education in 1951, and a MA in History in 1960.
Arthur remembered his time at The University of Sheffield fondly, particularly his time spent in his former hall of residence, Crewe Hall. He also mentioned one of his inspirations at Sheffield being Professor W.H.G (Harry) Armytage, a senior figure in the education department and a major influence across the University. Arthur never forgot the University, and continued to support scholarships at the University in his later years.
After completing his education at Sheffield, Arthur pursued a career in education going on to work at Mile End School in Stockport, before working as a lecturer at Oxford then Cambridge amongst other places, as a history teacher and lecturer. Ultimately he rose to become the Headmaster of Tiverton Grammar School, and later the Headmaster of Sexey’s School in Somerset.
