As the National Post-doc Appreciation Week comes to a close, we want to shout out to some of our current post-docs working within the Urban Institute!
Thank you all for your support, collegiality and hard work.
Thank you Yannis...
Yannis is an inspiring colleague over the years he has been part of the UI. He has been integral to the shaping of the Global Corridor project as a fun but also deeply reflective and intellectually curious project. He has led an ambitious Mediterranean wide research program with many collaborators and research assistants. His work as an infrastructure scholar has opened up many new pathways for global research - see https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14747731.2022.2139136.
Thank you Shizhi...
It is impossible not to be affected by Shizhi's contagious positive energy. He brings enthusiasm, commitment, and intellectual creativity to all of his research. Shizhi is currently working on environmental justice in the context of environmental politics in China, while his previous work examined 'global' China from a historical perspective - see

Thank you Zhengli...
Zhengli has been critical to developing a massive database of infrastructure projects. Her enthusiasm and commitment to accurate and detailed collation and analysis has been hugely important. Zhengli has also contributed to the broader culture of the project team, and is always happy to lead on various activities bringing her deep expertise in infrastructure, East Africa and Chinese finance to discussions. Thank you Bryony...
Bryony has been supporting the Co-Pro Futures Inquiry and is absolutely central to its delivery, bringing with her deep experience of working with Sheffield's Participatory Action Research Network. She graduated from Sheffield in May 2025 with a PhD in "The (Mis)use of Indigenous Knowledge in International Relations: How ubuntu is used as a tool for peacebuilding in South Africa".
Thank you Sangita...
In the few months since joining the UI, Sangita has made an outstanding difference to rethinking the application of feminist methodologies to the study of infrastructures. Her attention to detail and commitment to decolonial methodologies have been invaluable in the development of a collective framework for the study of just energy transitions, which is now shared by research teams in Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. She completed her PhD " Between Recognition and Erasure: Indigenous Knowledge, Gender, Culture, and Socio-Environmental Politics in Nepal" in May 2025.
Thank you Yuting...
While Yuting only recently joined the UI, we are already impressed by her efficiency, analytic skill, and ability to rapidly navigate a new research area. We are delighted to have her as part of our team. Yuting is also investigating environmental justice dynamics in China, which builds on and extends her previous research on aesthetic representation in climate change communication - see

Thank you Theo...
Theo is the newest member of the team, joining in September 2025, having secured a competitive Leverhulme Early Career fellowship on 'rooming' and migrant housing in Europe. We are delighted to welcome him and look forward to learning more about this important research.
