Our taster session will give you an insight into the research being carried out in this exciting and fast emerging realm of physics. You’ll learn how these technologies will change the future of the world we live in today.

Quantum physics and quantum technologies

Quantum mechanics was invented in the 1920s to explain the behaviour of atoms. It was incredibly successful in describing observed phenomena with great precision, but when it comes to what quantum physics actually tells us about nature, there is still no full consensus.

This has not stopped scientists working to develop an entirely new form of technology called quantum technologies, which is set to revolutionise computing, sensing and communication.

This talk will give you an insight into the world of quantum technologies and what we’re doing to contribute to the latest developments.

This session is suitable for students in years 12 and 13.
