Ying completed her MA in digital media and society in the University of Sheffield. She has worked as a journalist and editor for magazines and broadcasters previously, with a longstanding focus on culture and arts. Her academic journey is from Changsha, China to Sheffield, UK and from communication to sociology.
As a contributing editor for seven years at a dance magazine, she is currently devoting her experience in understanding dance into academic research. She currently serialising the blog "Dance and Feminism" in Chinese.

Ying’s research interests focuses on interpersonal and gender-based violence and abuse, health inequalities, dance/movement intervention. She is especially concerned with the relations between dance and violence, the health of dancers, and trauma-based dance interventions.
Her thesis explores ballroom dance in gender-based violence intervention.
