We are delighted that the University of Sheffield Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Health have, in partnership, been invited to become a member of the NIHR School for Social Care Research (SSCR) which aims to improve the evidence base for adult social care in England. Membership of the SSCR unlocks over £2 million in research funding for Sheffield over the next five years, as well as additional capacity development funds and opportunities for collaboration.

Membership of SSCR adds to the growing portfolio of applied social care research and impact activity across the University, including CIRCLE, the ESRC Centre for Care and the IMPACT Centre in the Faculty of Social Sciences, alongside the Sheffield Centre for Health and Related Research, the Health and Care Research Unit and the School for Public Health Research in the Faculty of Health.

This is a critical time for applied social care research. We look forward to working with colleagues, people who use social care, practitioners and other partners to improve policy and practice.
