Karin joined the School of East Asian Studies as a postdoctoral
Research Associate in Japanese Politics and International Relations in October 2023.
She received her PhD from the School of Politics and International Relations, Queen Mary University of London, where she researched the development of conservative ideologies in Japan and their influences on domestic and foreign policies.
Previous to her current role at Sheffield, Karin taught courses on political and international relations theory at Queen Mary University of London and King’s College London.

Karin’s research lies at the intersections of Japanese/East Asian international relations, intellectual history, and studies of right-wing ideologies.
Karin is currently working on three projects:
First, she is finalizing a co-authored monograph on the theory, ideology, and strategies of the Global Right.
Second, with Hugo Dobson (Sheffield) and Caroline Rose (Leeds), she is working on a monograph on the role of former prime ministers in Japanese politics.
Third, she is developing a monograph on the intellectual history of conservative ideologies in Japan, based on her doctoral thesis.
