About
The Aziz Foundation was established in 2015 by the Aziz family, and is inspired by the values and teaching of Islam to support the most disadvantaged communities in Britain.
From 2019, the foundation has focused on supporting Muslim individuals by offering masters scholarships that allow recipients to progress in their careers and make meaningful contributions to their industry, community and society as a whole.
Successful applicants will receive a full scholarship for their tuition fees and access to a programme of training days and career mentors via Aziz Scholarships Plus and the Aziz Scholars Association.
Eligibility
Scholarships are awarded to UK individuals with career aspirations in media and journalism, technology, sustainability and the environment, law, policy (excluding health policy), arts and culture, and sports. Applications for science, health policy, or mathematics courses are not accepted.
Applicants should meet all of the following requirements:
- You must be eligible for home fees status at the University.
- You should be active within a Muslim community and demonstrate intimate knowledge of issues affecting British Muslim communities.
- You are able to demonstrate long-term commitment to community/societal development within Britain.
- You are able to show how the course will increase your effectiveness in one of the following areas relating to British Muslims: advocacy and enhancing public perception or community service and social development.
- You have an excellent understanding of your chosen industry and how to progress within it with relevant, prior experience and/or achievements in the field.
- You have knowledge of how the course will enable you to generate social impact.
- You are able to demonstrate that you require financial assistance in order to undertake a masters degree and be Zakat eligible/in financial need, and therefore cannot cover the costs of tuition.
- Your course is not funded by the undergraduate funding system or the NHS - contact us if you are unsure.

The Aziz Foundation - Scholarships Application
Students in receipt of one of the Aziz Scholarships are not eligible for the Alumni Reward discount.
How to apply
Applications are submitted online, via a portal on the Aziz Foundation website. You will need to demonstrate active engagement in British Muslim communities, a long-term commitment to community/societal development, and a need for financial assistance in order to undertake a masters degree.
The scholarship application process is undertaken independently of your study application to Sheffield. Both applications must be successful for a student to receive the scholarship.

Applications for the 2024-25 Aziz Foundation Scholarships are now closed.
- Cycle 1 - applications were open from 12.00pm (noon) on Monday 15 January 2024 - 12.00pm (noon) on Friday 29 March 2024
- Cycle 2 - applications were open from 12.00pm (noon) on Monday 1 April 2024 - 12.00pm (noon) on Friday 14 June 2024
Further information
- You must be starting a new, eligible, stand alone postgraduate course to receive the scholarship.
- Students intending to take a postgraduate masters loan are classed as self-sponsored and are eligible to apply.
- Applications for science, health policy, or mathematics courses are not accepted.
- Courses that are funded by the undergraduate funding system or are NHS funded are not eligible.
- Students who receive the Social Work Bursary from the NHS cannot apply.
- Integrated masters, such as the MArch, are not eligible.
- Students in receipt of the Sheffield MBA Scholarship or the Sheffield Postgraduate Scholarship are not eligible to receive the Aziz Foundation Scholarship.
- Students in receipt of one of the Aziz Foundation Scholarships are not eligible for the Alumni Reward discount.
