Migration Research Group is 10!

On 23rd May 2024, we celebrated 10 successful years of our interdisciplinary network at the University of Sheffield with an annual lecture by Professor Vicki Squire, University of Warwick, entitled 'Coloniality, frictions and epistemic injustice: Data-driven humanitarianism in north-eastern Nigeria and South Sudan'. The talk highlighted ethical questions in researching vulnerable groups, like migrants and displaced people, and the practices of humanitarian sector focused on 'data-driven' approaches in their research. Yet, more broadly, Prof. Squire lecture provoked a heated discussion about how migration studies knowledge is produced and (still) not often shared with the vulnerable communities, and how migration data is - or rather is not - moved between different social actors.
