Description

The everyday political economy of recent Vietnamese migrant labour to/in the UK

Speaker: Dr Seb Rumsby, University of Birmingham

We will send the link to share the online Seminar with registered participants.

Abstract: The ‘everyday’ is not only a site of political struggle and contestation but also a site within which wider economic transformations play out in variegated ways. This talk investigates the dynamics of debt, exploitation, solidarity and support within the recent Vietnamese migrant community, whilst contextualising these relationships within the wider challenges of the UK’s ‘hostile environment’ policies and economic turbulences.

Bio: Dr Seb Rumsby is an interdisciplinary scholar with a wide range of interests including everyday politics, labour exploitation, undocumented migration, ethno-religious politics, grassroots development and non-national histories. Seb unites these diverse themes with an empirical focus on Southeast Asian worlds and people.
