Online resources

As students at the University of Sheffield, you have access to the University library's eResources from both on and off campus. Always make sure you are logged in to MUSE so you can search all of our collections and get direct access to full texts in electronic format.

Discovering the resources you need with StarPlus

StarPlus is the library catalogue and search platform. It allows you to search for and gives you direct access to full-text eBooks, databases and eJournals, meaning they can be accessed at any time if you have an internet connection.

The library also provides online reading lists for your modules/courses called resource lists. These lists contain links to electronic resources such as full-text journal articles, eBooks and databases in addition to items physically held in the library. All you have to do is enter your module code or the name of your course.

See our StarPlus frequently asked questions (FAQs).

eBooks and accessibility

The Library provides you with access to thousands of eBooks via StarPlus. eBooks are accessible anytime, anywhere and are easy to navigate and search.
Learn how to find and access eBooks and get the most out of their functionality via our eBooks frequently asked questions (FAQs).

You can also book onto our 'Using eBooks Effectively' workshop via our information and digital literacy webinars page or use our discovering and using eBooks effectively tutorial.

Most eBook platforms also have accessibility functions and the tutorial includes our eBook accessibility video guide. Alternatively, you can visit our eBooks accessibility guide.

Making online resources more accessible

There are many ways you can make your keyboard and mouse, Windows, the internet and your favourite applications suit you and your needs with My Computer, My Way from AbilityNet.

Keyboard shortcuts are keys or combinations of keys that provide an alternative way to do something that you'd typically do with a mouse. There are guidelines to keyboard shortcuts in Windows and keyboard shortcuts for Mac that you can use.

Accessing resources from other libraries

If there is a book you need that we don’t have in the library then you can request it through our Inter Library Request service.

If you would like to access other University libraries in the UK you can join the SCONUL Access scheme. This service might be particularly useful if you are a distance (online) learning, part-time or commuter student.

Recommend an online resource that you think the library should buy
