Languages for All

Our Korean modules are open to all students (for credits or not), members of staff, and members of the public.

Available on an academic year or semester basis, they aim to develop language competence and cultural knowledge for professional and recreational purposes through small group weekly classes and guided independent learning.

Levels

We offer Korean language modules at three different levels: Beginner, Post-beginner and Intermediate. Find out about the modules we offer and choose the course that's right for you. 

If you are unsure about your level, let us know when applying and we will invite you for a short interview to understand your previous experience and current needs.

Beginner

Choose this level if you have no previous experience of learning the language.

• Academic year: LAS1139 Korean 1 (20 credits)
• Autumn: LAS133 Korean for Non-Specialists 1 (10 credits)
• Spring: LAS134 Korean for Non-Specialists 2 (10 credits)

Post-beginner

You have some basic experience of learning the language and aren't a complete beginner.

• Autumn: LAS237 Korean for Non-Specialists 3 (10 credits)
• Spring: LAS238 Korean for Non-Specialists 4 (10 credits)

Intermediate

You have studied the language for one to two years, possibly have (the equivalent of) a good GCSE, and can interact with 'friendly' native speakers in common, expected situations.

• Autumn: LAS333 Korean for Non-Specialists 5 (10 credits)
• Spring: LAS334 Korean for Non-Specialists 6 (10 credits)

Degrees with Korean

Undergraduate students who take a Korean specialism as part of their degree with the School of Languages, Arts and Societies will take the following modules.

The language modules are intended to build your proficiency in Korean over the years, taking into account any previous experience of the language you may have, whilst supporting your study of Korean culture in other modules.

Year 1

• Academic Year: LAS1129 Korean Intensive 1c (20 credits)

Year 2

Autumn:

Spring:

Year 3
