Why study Italian?
Italian is considered by many the most romantic and musical language in the world. It is the language of one of the richest culinary traditions but also of classical music, art history, design and fashion.
About the modules
Our Italian language modules are open to all students (for credits or not), members of staff, and members of the public.
Available on an academic year or semester basis, they aim to develop language competence and cultural knowledge for professional and recreational purposes through small group weekly classes and guided independent learning.
Levels
If you are unsure about your level, let us know when applying and we will invite you for a short interview to understand your previous experience and current needs.
- Beginner
Choose this level if you are a complete beginner, have learnt some vocabulary with Duolingo, or studied the language during secondary school (pre-GCSE) but have not engaged with the language since then.
- Academic year: LAS1146 Italian Beginner (20 credits)
- Autumn: LAS198 Italian Beginner 1 (10 credits)
- Spring:
- LAS198 Italian Beginner 1 (Repeat of Autumn module) (10 credits)
- LAS157 Italian Beginner 2 (Continuation of LAS198) (10 credits)
- Intermediate
Choose this level if you have successfully completed Beginner, have a GCSE grades 7-9, an equivalent qualification, or can demonstrate equivalent competence.
- Academic year: LAS2179 Italian Intermediate (20 credits)
- Autumn: LAS287 Italian Intermediate 1 (10 credits)
- Spring: LAS2127 Italian Intermediate 2 (10 credits)
- Advanced
Choose this level if you have successfully completed Intermediate, an A level grade A-C, an equivalent qualification, or can demonstrate equivalent competence.
- Academic year: LAS3134 Italian Advanced (20 credits)
- Autumn: LAS2160 Italian Advanced 1 (10 credits)
- Spring: LAS2174 Italian Advanced 2 (10 credits)
