What first attracted you to join the University of Sheffield?

If you live in Sheffield you'll know the iconic University buildings on the skyline and the buzz that it brings to the city. The chance to work for an employer with strong, people-focused values was really important to me, and I had friends who were also working in the department and they all had good things to say!

What do you enjoy most about working at the University of Sheffield?

The people. Whether that's the fantastic colleagues I have within the HR department, or the colleagues I work with across the wider university, the commitment, enthusiasm, skills, creativity and innovation that bounce around the place are amazing. We have fun, too, which is really important. And, it's a cliché, but no day is the same.

What do you enjoy about working in the department?

There's a real team ethos which means that we approach any challenges together and there's a genuine supportive culture. When I joined the department I gained fantastic colleagues and also really valued friends.

Do you have any favourite memories from working at the University of Sheffield?

My mind immediately goes to the community and social events, things like the Big Walk which brings together colleagues from across the University to do a big walk around the local countryside, raising money for much needed causes within the University. Within HR we also have some great social events and our Christmas get-together is a highlight. Professionally, I've been given loads of opportunities to develop my skills and experience. Managers have been very supportive, instilling me with confidence and autonomy.

Did you move to Sheffield from another area?

I've always lived and worked in Sheffield and I love living here!

What’s your favourite thing about Sheffield as a city?

Green spaces, independent shops, friendly people.

What would you say to someone who was considering the University as a place to work?

Come and join us - I came for 5 months and am still here 8 years later. It's the best career move I've made.
