Senior IT Technician - Faculty of Engineering

Off

" I started my career here at the University in 2012 on a training course which aimed to develop multi-skilled technicians in the Faculty of Engineering. Ten years later, I am the Senior IT officer in the department of Mechanical Engineering.

I think the University is a great place to work due to a number of things but I will mention the main reasons for me.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the conversations that come with working at the University.  I have made contacts and friends across the University and have learnt so much about other cultures and ways of life.  I am very interested in learning about life in different places around the world and my regular contact with students has enabled me to have deep intriguing conversations with people from all corners of the world from Brazil to Srinagar!

When we had our first child I found myself needing some flexibility in my role to be able to arrange childcare.  I found the University to be very supportive of flexible working which helped me to slightly change my working hours to suit our childcare needs.  This was extremely helpful as I felt it took some pressure off me as I was not worried about being late and I could simply make up any time needed.  Flexible working is supported here at the University which I think is great!

Lastly I would like to mention the helping nature of staff here at the University.  We have supportive communities and colleagues are always willing to help!  This is fantastic when you need some advice or support on resolving a problem. "
