I am enjoying connecting with students from across the globe, the varied teaching styles and course subjects.
I chose to study at the University of Sheffield for its focus on ecology and progressive approach to creating resilient cities through landscape architecture and urban design. I was also drawn to it for its international population; it was an opportunity to learn from other cultures and mindsets. To research the University, I looked into staff biographies and their work, talked to MA students on the online chat and read reviews.
Being awarded an International Postgraduate Merit Scholarship feels humbling and inspiring. It has given me a boost to be able to pursue my passions and it will help ease the cost of materials and allow me to hopefully complete an internship by next summer.
So far, I have thoroughly enjoyed connecting with students from across the globe, the varied teaching styles and course subjects. The way in which the classes reinforce one another and are layered is impactful and enriching. Additionally, Sheffield is a warm and welcoming city; I now understand why so many graduates of the University have chosen to stay here!
I would encourage anyone who is interested in this field of study to come to Sheffield. It is so welcoming, organised and thorough– through the various apps, the comprehensive facilities at the Students' Union, and helpful people. It is a very encouraging and supportive place to learn. For Landscape Architecture students, the Workshop is a great resource for buying materials, and much more affordable than some of the local art stores.
In the future I hope to work with universities and hospitals to incorporate productive green roofs and urban agriculture into their curriculum for landscape architecture, urban planning, landscape maintenance and horticulture students.
