Please outline your career history: how did you get to where you are today?
I have more than 30 years of experience in accounting, business management and operations. I am currently Executive Director of Bonjour Holdings Limited. From 2006 to 2019, I was successively Senior Vice President, Eastern China Chief Representative, and Consultant under Li & Fung Group. The Group engaged in trading, distribution, logistics and retailing businesses, where I am primarily responsible for operations, government relations and business development for the group. Prior to this, I served as the Chief Operating Officer at DVN Holdings Company Limited , a company listed on Hong Kong Stock Exchange (Stock Code: 0500). I was also formerly senior project manager (Greater China) of Caltex Hong Kong Ltd. Besides my full time positions, I have been serving as an independent non-executive director at various publicly listed companies.
Why did you want to come to the University of Sheffield to study your chosen degree?
I found the city peaceful and conducive to studying. The University has a great Students Union that has helped me fit in quickly with the environment , and enable me to make friends from different nationalities - which has nurtured me to be a “Global Citizen”. The people in Sheffield are friendly, and accommodative to overseas students. The University also has great library facilities. And the green nature of the city is very appealing and comfortable to live in.
What were your favourite things about or best memories of the University of Sheffield?
The friendliness of the people, Arts Tower (the famous lift!) , Students Union, Crookesmoor, the beautiful snow scenery, laughter of friends. I have many happy memories from my living in Sheffield - which will stay with me for life.
Please explain how has your qualification and/or time at Sheffield helped you in your career?
Tremendously - my education at Sheffield has nurtured me to be a logical thinker, and equipped me with knowledge that has helped me in my Career pursuits. The international experience I gained at the University has made me a great candidate for multinational enterprises and global business. I have also gained good communication skills, analytical skills and leadership skills that have helped escalate me to leadership positions in my career path. I am thankful to Sheffield for all the enriching experiences and knowledge that have prepared me for success.
What has been your greatest achievement to date?
Obtained First Class Honors degree at Sheffield University, first woman to become the President of the HK Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 40 years of history, and awarded the “Distinguished Alumni” by the University of Sheffield.
