‘Threads of Time’ is a co-produced participatory arts research project that took place as part of the AHRC’s Connected Communities Festival 2016: Community Futures and Utopias.

The project involved young black and minority ethnic (BME) women from Rotherham, exploring identity and Britishness through art and writing workshops.

The young women produced an amazing art display on the theme of ‘being British’ and also a book of writing and poetry on identity which were showcased at the event.

This book has been widely distributed within Rotherham amongst the Police, community workers, local schools and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.

This was a collaborative project supported by the University of Sheffield (via the Imagine Project) and the Clifton Learning Partnership.

The community researcher on the project Zanib Rasool worked with local artist Shaheen Shah and Sheffield poet, Helen Mort.

This project demonstrates how a co-produced approach with universities working with community partners can achieve positive outcomes for young people and help raise their aspirations as well as affect policy and practice.
