Profile

George completed a BA in Philosophy at The University of York and an MA in Philosophy at The University of Southampton, before beginning his PhD at Sheffield in 2020. His research considers how intellectual humility can promote close friendship between people of different backgrounds. It explores the ways that intellectual vices, such as arrogance, laziness and close-mindedness, can create obstacles to forming close friendships with people very different to oneself; and how the cultivation of virtues like intellectual humility can support and enrich these valuable relationships. He has an interest in intellectual virtues and vices, feminist philosophy, critical philosophy of race, and the philosophy of friendship. In addition, he enjoys reading philosophy of art and aesthetics.
