- Profile
-
I completed my Masters and PhD studies at the University of Leeds and carried out fieldwork in relation to my thesis on German pop literature while based at the Johannes-Gutenberg Universität Mainz. I have worked as a freelance translator of academic research in the Arts and Humanities and teach on modules at all levels of undergraduate study in Sheffield.
My research focuses on contemporary German-language literature, especially on authors who rose to prominence after German unification including Rainald Goetz, Christian Kracht, Thomas Meinecke and Andreas Neumeister.
I am very active in the area of employability through module and assessment design, helping language students to articulate the specialist skills and knowledge they acquire from their degree at Sheffield, and developing good relations with employers in Germany and in the UK. I also work with the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany to convene the annual German Business Student of the Year competition, which involves final-year students ‘pitching’ their business ideas to potential investors in a format similar to that of the BBC series Dragons’ Den.
