The Guardian University Guide has established itself as a key league table for UK universities and ranks universities on a number of criteria; including student satisfaction scores based on courses, teaching and feedback, as well as the proportion of graduates in employment or further study after graduation.
In addition, the guide ranks by subject area, and scored engineering subjects at Sheffield within the top 10 places to study for:
- Aerospace Engineering (3rd)
- Civil Engineering (5th)
- Computer Science and Information Systems (9th)
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering (6th)
(includes our Mechatronics, Robotics & Computer Systems Engineering courses) - General Engineering (5th)
(includes our Materials Science and Engineering and Biomedical Engineering courses) - Mechanical Engineering 4th

The Guardian University Guide 2025 ranked the University of Sheffield within the top 10 in the UK for 12 subject areas including: construction, surveying and planning; civil engineering; nursing; journalism; architecture and zoology
The University of Sheffield rose one place from last year to be ranked 20th best University in the UK out of 122 institutions
