The Economics Department's annual public Knoop lecture took place on 17 October and featured Misa Tanaka, the Head of Research at the Bank of England. The high profile speaker joined the Bank of England in 2002 after completing a D.Phil in Economics at Nuffield College, University of Oxford. Her extensive experience includes positions across Monetary Analysis, Financial Stability and Prudential Policy Areas of the Bank of England, along with notable publications in prestigious journals like the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking; Journal of Financial Intermediation; and Economic Journal. Presently, Misa's research focuses on prudential policies and the impact of climate change on the financial system.
During her lecture, Misa shared profound insights on pertinent economic issues related to climate change. Her perspectives resonated with our students and staff, fostering engaging discussions and prompting numerous insightful questions.
Inaugurated in 2012, the annual Knoop Lecture is given in honour of Professor Douglas Knoop (1883-1948), one of the most influential figures in the Department of Economics' history being the first Professor of Economics at the University of Sheffield.
