Registration online Dutch courses to start February 2025

In February 2025 the University of Sheffield will start with TWO online language courses, specially designed for people who want to learn Dutch from the comfort of their own home.

Dutch is an accessible and fun language to learn! From February 2025, Dutch at the University of Sheffield offers two online Dutch Courses, specially designed for the general public. Join an informal community of learners that work together in small groups with a highly experienced university tutor. We are now open for enrolment.

What will I learn?

Our classes are all about using Dutch in real situations, from ordering food and drinks in a restaurant over buying groceries at the market to informal conversations.

In Beginners Dutch I we will focus on pronunciation, spelling rules, thematic vocabulary, verb conjugation and basic sentence structures while diving into some cultural features of the  Low Countries as well. We also have our own online Dutch grammar channel to help you learn and practise.

I was trying to conjugate verbs for some homework I had and couldn't understand why some of these were different or why did they changed. This video explained everything in an easy and simple way making it funny and interesting.

Beginners Dutch II builds on the knowledge of Dutch I but is also a good level to start for those who have some experience with the language but want to tackle their learning more systematically and with others. With a bit of effort and dedication you will be able to handle most social situations at the end of the course.

Course Materials

The book we use is Nederlands in gang (edition 2018 or later). You will have to buy your own copy of the book which is also available as an E-book and comes with plenty of extra online material. The courses come with their own digital classroom with all the information and additional material.
