Following a recent Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with Basildon Borough Council, a new output has emerged - Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of the Basildon Borough Council.

The report will be uploaded to the GOLD Repository. GOLD is an organisation committed to localising the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 2030 Agenda and other major global agendas. This year's GOLD edition of the Towards the Localization of the SDGs report also features the new VLR.

This VLR is only the third to be published in the UK, with previous VLRs being with Bristol City Council and Newcastle City Council. Uniquely, this is the first VLR to have been initiated through the lens of 'local culture'.

The Basildon Borough Council's Voluntary Local Review report was prepared by:

  • Professor Kelum Jayasinghe (CRAFiC, Sheffield University Management School) - Principal Investigator
  • Professor Silvia Gaia (University of Essex) - Co-Investigator
  • Dr Diogenis Baboukardos (Audencia Business School and Athens University of Economics and Business) - Co-Investigator
  • Dr Alaaeldin Ahmed (University of Reading) - Co-Investigator

The report was produced in partnership with Basildon Borough Council.

This VLR project is funded by the Creative Basildon Programme with additional funding awarded by the Creative Estuary Fund as part of the Our Towns project. The VLR was initiated through the research of Charlotte Pyatt and was enacted together with Doug Gillen in collaboration with the Cultural Collective Partnership (CCP) and Things Made Public.

The research team extends their personal thanks to Allan Maclead (Bristol City Council), Grant Ross, Sarah Walters, Lauren Martin, Samantha Oxford, Rachel Glover, Rachel Brown, Rosanna Lewis, Callum Jones and the Creative Estuary Fund for their invaluable support in bringing this project to life. They are also grateful to the partners and local collaborators of the Our Towns project, including Crays Hill School, Basildon Pride, Essex Youth Services, The Essex Young Carers, Women Together, A Peaceful Place, The Billericay Roundtable, Graphenstone, Things Made Public and Wood Street Walls, as well as Ben Stewart, Arches, Helen Bur, Erin Holly, Gabriel Pitcher, Franco Fasoli, Michelle Curtis, Martina Capdevilla and INSA.
