What is Clearing?

Clearing is a way of applying for undergraduate courses that still have places available. Whether you’ve changed your mind about what you want to do next year, you haven’t been accepted by your original Firm and Insurance choices, or you simply didn’t submit an application in the main UCAS cycle, Clearing gives you the chance to find the right course for you.

How to apply: Before A Level results day

Already got your results?

It’s a myth that Clearing starts on A Level results day. If you’ve already got your results you can apply for a place from 5 July, up to 8 August.

Apply via your UCAS Hub or register with UCAS

Expecting your results in August?

If you’re not already holding a Sheffield offer and think you might like to study with us, from 5 July you can Advance Register your interest by completing our form.

Advance Register

  • Simply enter your details and tell us what course or courses you’re interested in
  • We’ll email you on the morning of Thursday 15 August and, if we have places available on your course, all you’ll need to do is add your grades via the link we provide
  • Your completed application will be reviewed by our team, then we’ll either email or call you to let you know our decision
  • If we offer you a place, you can choose to accept it via our helpline or website
  • Once you’ve accepted your offer, you’ll need to submit a formal Clearing application via your UCAS Hub

How to apply: From A Level results day

You can also start your application on A Level results day. Anyone who has their grades can apply through Clearing, even if you didn’t originally apply through UCAS.

  • From 8am on Thursday 15 August you can browse our vacancies and entry requirements
  • You then submit your application through our website at www.sheffield.ac.uk/clearing, or by calling our helpline on +44 114 212 9900
  • Your application will be reviewed by our team and we’ll either email or call you to let you know our decision
  • If we offer you a place, you can accept it via our helpline or website
  • Once you’ve accepted your offer, you’ll need to submit a formal Clearing application via your UCAS Hub
