PhD Researcher
- Profile
-
Mahmoud is a PhD researcher in the Energy Institute (Energy 2050) group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, holding an EPSRC DTP PhD Studentship. His PhD is on a cross-disciplinary project aiming to support the hydrogen implementation in the glass industry as part of the UK plan to decarbonise the foundation industries by 2050. This will be done by optimising the hydrogen combustion and evaluating the environmental-economic outcomes of hydrogen implementation.
Mahmoud obtained his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Ain Shams University, graduating in 2012 as the first in his class. Mahmoud started his career in academia by pursuing a postgraduate course, followed by an enrolment at Egypt-Japan University for Science and Technology (E-JUST) for M.Sc. His master’s degree was in the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) department, and his studies focused on new steel alloys for automotive applications. Mahmoud has had a good record of engineering education activities throughout his career: he was appointed as a lecturer assistant at Ain Shams University, and had additional part-time teaching roles at other universities, for example, E-JUST during his M.Sc. and the University of Sheffield during his PhD.
