This event is a collaboration between the School of East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield and The Japan Society of the UK.
It will be a day for sixth-form (under 18 years of age) students to participate in cultural workshops, language tasters and a panel discussion where they will learn about the exciting paths they can take by studying Japanese at University.
Whether they are interested in Japan, are already learning Japanese or maybe are complete beginners, everyone is welcome!
This will be a great opportunity to learn more about studying Japanese (or Japanese alongside other subjects) at universities.

This event is open to sixth form students only in the UK – free entry.
Students can attend the event on their own or with teachers; however, they must have permission from school and parents or guardian to attend before booking a place.
Booking deadline: Thursday 19th December 2024. Please note that places will be allocated on a first-come-first served basis. When you sign up, you will receive a confirmation email within 5-10 working days.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I need to have prior knowledge of studying Japanese? No. This event is open to all students who have an interest in Japanese culture or East Asian Cultures. Whether you are a beginner or completing a qualification in Japanese, everyone is welcome.
How will spaces be allocated? Places will be issued on a first come first served basis. Students may attend on their own or be accompanied by a member of staff. If the event reaches capacity, you will be added to a waiting list. Please note that in order to keep the event open to all, booking will be initially limited to 15 places per school.
Where can we eat and drink on campus? We advise teachers and students to bring or buy their own lunch in advance as food will not be provided at the event. There are a number of catering outlets also available on campus, including a café in the building.
How do I get there? We recommend travelling to the University via public transport. Sheffield has great transport links, with several park and ride sites, and is easily accessible by train.
Visitor Parking - We are unable to offer visitor parking on campus and the public 'pay and display' parking close by is very limited. Find more travel advice and plan your journey to our campus. The nearest tram stop to the Diamond is the University of Sheffield tram stop, just a few minutes walk away. If you or your guests have a disability read our access information.
Blue Badge Parking - An additional 20 blue-badge parking spaces are available in the Q-Park at Rockingham Street. Alternatively, blue badge bays at the following Q-Park on campus provide good access to the Diamond for this event, but are subject to availability on the day.
Private Coach Parking - Coach drop-off is available at Broad Lane or Mappin Street/ Portobello Lane bus stop but coaches will be required to park at Meadowhall Interchange as there is no available coach parking on campus.
