Staying in a department I knew was excellent pushed me more towards staying at Sheffield
Why did you choose your particular course?
Throughout my third year of undergraduate study I became much more interested in the interactions and intersections between Politics and Philosophy. This made the MA Political Theory course at Sheffield the logical choice for me.
Why did you decide to study at the University of Sheffield?
I had already done my BA History and Politics degree at Sheffield, so staying in a department I knew was excellent pushed me more towards staying at Sheffield. In addition, Sheffield’s course was considerably cheaper than other comparable course’s, especially with the alumni discount.
What made you decide to study a masters degree?
I had begun to get deeper into academic study, and wanted to continue this at masters level.
How do you think your postgraduate degree differs from your undergraduate studies?
At postgraduate level I have much more freedom to pursue my own research interests. This is primarily due to the fact that essay titles are left completely up to us.
How do you think the course will help you prepare for your chosen career?
I’m planning on doing a PhD, so doing a masters before hand has helped me get a taste of academic life before fully committing to the 3 year PhD.
What are you enjoying the most about studying in Sheffield?
The quality of the departments, the freedom of the course, and the personal relationships I’ve been able to form with other postgraduates, as well as staff.
Can you share your experiences of the support you have received so far either from academics within the department or within the University?
Thus far I have had really high quality academic support from my tutors and other academic staff.
Is there anything else you would like add about your time so far at the Department of Politics and International Relations and the University?
I would like to emphasise the high standard of the academic staff in the politics department. I have had excellent support, both in terms of more general and pastoral issues, as well essay feedback and consultations.
