The degree set me on a great path to a career in corporate communications
What did you enjoy most about the course?
I really loved the practical nature of it and having the opportunity to learn from highly experienced journalists with diverse experiences.
Did you face any challenges during your time here?
I wouldn't say it was a challenge, but adapting to working to tight deadlines and receiving critical appraisal from the staff were good preparation for what could have been challenging situations in the working world.
Did you complete any work placements?
I did two placements, one at the Sheffield Star and one at Zoo Magazine. They were great opportunities to see different styles of journalism and editorial approaches, refine my interview and writing styles and to land some great published pieces for my portfolio.
What was the most important lesson you took away from your time spent as a Sheffield Journalism student?
To get straight to the point and write content that focuses on people.
How has your time at the University of Sheffield impacted your career?
It set me on a great path to a career in corporate communications within charity and government in organisations. I don't think I would have landed the roles I have, or progressed my career, without the degree and the things I learned during it.
