Anna began her journalism career as an administrator at the BBC World Service in 2004, and went on to hold various positions across radio and digital news.
She spent six years in Singapore as the BBC's deputy Asia editor, where she led day-to-day coverage of news and current affairs across the Asia-Pacific region and reported on or from major global events. She helped to establish the BBC's Sydney online bureau and worked for a time as the digital editor for the BBC World Service South Asian language services.
She left the BBC in 2020 to pursue a freelance journalism and PR career and an MA in Digital Sociology at the University of Sheffield. Her dissertation focused on the emotional impact of news and how audiences use emotion to make news choices. She began teaching at the University of Sheffield in 2021, and currently teaches digital media, feature writing, news writing, and communications and PR.
Anna remains an active journalist, as a freelance feature writer and editor, communications specialist and radio producer for BBC local radio. She also co-presents the Journalism school's podcast, JournoWave.
