Competitions
This year's International Journalism Week includes three competitions for students. Read on to find out more.
There will be three types of competitions in this year’s International Journalism Week (IJW2024): a podcast, a short video or TikTok (another type of short video), and a quiz. Prizes will be awarded to winners of the competitions - prize winners will also receive certificates as evidence of their hard work and success. Please note that these competitions are only open undergraduate and postgraduate taught students at the University of Sheffield.
All submissions must relate to the theme of IJW2024 - "Journalism in time of global unrest".
Podcast competition
This category involves recording and editing your own podcast that responds to the theme. The podcast should be 10 minutes maximum.
Short video or TikTok competition
This category involved shooting and editing your own short video that responds to the theme. The video should be 5 minutes maximum.
Quiz competition
All student participants can participate in the quiz, but it is mandatory for all first-year BA Journalism and MA Global Journalism students. The quiz questions will be drawn from papers delivered during the first four days of the conference, and any other questions selected by the coordinator of the quiz session.
How do I enter the competitions?
All competitors should produce a captivating, original and didactic piece that would help us understand the theme of IJW2024. To signal your interest in any of the competition categories, send a synopsis of your piece (two paragraph summary of your idea) to Dr. Ilya Yablokov at i.yablokov@sheffield.ac.uk and copy in creativemedia@sheffield.ac.uk by Friday 18 October 2024.
Once your synopsis is approved (in a separate email sent to you personally), you can book a production support appointment with the creative media team by emailing creativemedia@sheffield.ac.uk or visiting the team at the Level 4 helpdesk of the Diamond building. The subject of your email must have the words, "IJW 2024 Creative Media Competition". You'll also receive instructions on how to submit your work via Blackboard. You must complete and submit your production by Monday 28 October.
