New facilities to support digital education
We've been commissioned by the University to create a large flexible digital learning space for the increasing number of Computer Science students.
Computer Science has seen a significant increase in student recruitment, requiring 1,000 square metres of additional teaching space. A requirement for a new digitally enabled flat floored space has been brought forward to facilitate teaching from Autumn 2023.
Our Space Management team investigated possible options across our campus and converting space within The Diamond was agreed upon for providing the best student experience.
The project will see the reconfiguration and expansion of the Digital Innovation Zone (DIZ) space and two student meeting rooms on the ground floor to create a c.500sqm facility, and the conversion of an existing large computer room on the second floor. The combination of these two facilities interconnected, will provide sufficient space for the larger number of Computer Science students.
Plans to provide additional student meeting and study spaces are currently being worked on.
Whilst the project team work with partners on finalising the design and delivering the project, decanting of the ground floor space will begin towards the end of May. A significant amount of work is needed in the spaces to get them ready for students to use this coming autumn. Once appointed, our contractors could be working around the clock to keep the project on schedule.
Siemens who currently occupy the DIZ space will be relocating to our award winning Engineering Heartspace. Their new area also requires refurbishment and again we're working to have this completed in Autumn 2023.
