Brook Hill Hall is a single storey red brick building located behind 205 Brook Hill. It was bought by the University in 1963 having been constructed in 1925 and previously known as St George’s Hall.
The University previously used the building for exams, student society activities and a small amount of teaching. All of these activities are now undertaken in more suitable locations across campus. The hall is currently only used as ad hoc storage and is in overall poor condition.
There is significant structural movement to both the building and associated retaining walls which has resulted in extensive cracking to internal walls and finishes. The external retaining wall and the hall is currently being held in position by scaffolding and ballast.
The building was a former war memorial hall. The only reference to this is a memorial plaque above the door to the building. The plaque and decorative stone will be carefully removed during demolition and relocated in a public location on campus which we'll publicise here in our news stories. We will also salvage other materials from the building to be reused in future projects across the University estate.
