Dr Arun joined the AMRC in 2023, specializing in metal laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) and surface engineering technologies. Prior to this role, Dr Arun served as a research scientist/IPT-Lead for the Manufacturing Technologies (ManTech) program at the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre, located at NTU in Singapore. His contributions to cutting-edge technology development and commercialisation were instrumental in furthering the Singapore 2030 Advanced Manufacturing Hub (AMH) and the Jurong Innovation District (JID) initiatives.
During his doctoral studies, sponsored by Rolls-Royce in Singapore, Dr Arun developed a novel surface finishing technique for additive manufactured fuel transfer cylinders in the Rolls-Royce Ultrafan engine. Additionally, he innovatively harnessed the phenomenon of cavitation (previously considered uncontrollable and destructive) through a novel machine design for constructive surface engineering of hard-to-machine materials. His outstanding work earned him the "Graduate College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award," recognising his exceptional PhD thesis.
Dr. Arun's research during his Master of Science in Manufacturing Systems, with a specialisation in additive manufacturing, in collaboration with the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP), encompassed multi-material polymer and fibre 3D printing of lightweight structures, dynamic materials testing, and non-destructive inspection of crack initiation and propagation in complex lattice structures.
Dr Arun has published numerous patents, journal articles, conference papers, books and posters. Dr Arun also serves as a guest editor and reviewer for several prestigious international journals, including Additive Manufacturing, Powder Technology, Journal of Materials Processing Technology, Materials and Coatings.
