The World Conference on Structural Control and Monitoring (WCSCM) is a major international event focusing on various technologies used to monitor and improve the performance of buildings and other civil infrastructure in response to stresses like earthquakes, wind, and human activity.

This is the first time the conference will be held in the UK and it will see engineers, scientists, and construction professionals from all over the world gather to explore new technologies for monitoring health, reducing vibration, and even adapting structures to changing conditions.

Why Sheffield?

This prestigious conference, having traversed continents with previous events in the US, Europe, and Asia, makes its debut in the UK, with Sheffield taking centre stage. Sheffield has been chosen because the city has gone from being one of the industrial powerhouses of England to a rising star of the UK's arts and culture scene.

Famous for its steel production, particularly stainless-steel cutlery, earning Sheffield the nickname "The Steel City", the capital has undergone a remarkable transformation with many former factories and foundries now home to galleries, theatres, bars and restaurants, showcasing the city's vibrant arts and culture scene.

Sheffield is one of the largest cities in Yorkshire, the largest county in the UK and is made up of 61% green space making it the greenest city in Europe. Shortlisted for the UK City of Culture in 2013, the city is home to a vibrant music scene, a Walk of Fame and approximately 1,100 historically important buildings.
