Profile

Jian received his PhD in 2022 from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. His research focused on enriched finite element methods (FEMs) for fracture analysis, the geometric library for discontinuities in unfitted/immersed/enriched FEMs, and topology optimization for improving fracture resistance.
After completing his PhD, Jian worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology, where he developed a computational design methodology for bio-inspired ceramics featuring Tetragonal-to-Monoclinic phase transformation toughening.
In May 2024, Jian joined our department as a Research Associate in Computational Design. He will develop computational models to assist with the design of materially efficient structures, utilizing novel methods such as layout optimization (LO) and exploring modern digital manufacturing and off-site construction techniques. Additionally, Jian will contribute to designing and executing a testing program to trial proposed erection techniques and provide validation data for the developed computational models.
Jian displays a positive outlook towards challenges and is highly passionate about cutting-edge methodologies in computational solid mechanics. He is skilled in programming-level finite element analysis, fracture mechanics, topology optimization, computational geometry, and material/structural design.
