Civil Engineering at Sheffield rated top in the Russell Group in the National Student Survey

The University’s subject of Civil & Structural Engineering has been ranked number one in the Russell Group by students in this year's National Student Survey.

The University’s subject of Civil & Structural Engineering has been ranked number one in the Russell Group by students for: teaching on my course and learning resources.

Civil & Structural Engineering was also ranked 2nd in the Russell Group for: learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support and the student voice with organisation and management coming in 4th in the latest National Student Survey (NSS). 

This is a truly incredible achievement by everyone involved. Our fabulous staff help our students to be the future of Civil and Structural Engineering and we’re all very proud of what they are achieving together. The results truly reflect the outstanding efforts of our staff who prioritise teaching excellence in every area, from delivery and support to providing valuable feedback and fostering a great learning environment.

Dr Sam Rigby, Director of Student Experience for Civil & Structural Engineering added; "I am incredibly proud of the efforts my colleagues have put into teaching this year, and our NSS results are a testament to our ongoing commitment to teaching excellence. We have nurtured a fantastic staff/student community, and our students have been instrumental in helping to shape our teaching practices, especially when it comes to assessment and feedback."

For the second year in a row, The University of Sheffield has been placed number one in the Russell Group, based on aggregate responses in the annual survey, in which students give feedback on their university experience. 

Sheffield’s Students’ Union has been rated the best SU among UK universities, after also being placed top in the Russell Group in last year’s NSS. 

Students gave Sheffield the highest score in the Russell Group for learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, and student voice, whilst the University has been ranked in the top four for teaching, academic support, organisation and management, and learning resources.  

The NSS results follow Sheffield being voted University of the Year by students, as well as Best Students’ Union and Best Student Life in this year’s Whatuni Student Choice Awards.
