Issue with Mozilla Firefox 11.0 and MOLE 2

The latest version of Mozilla Firefox (11.0) appears to disable older versions of Java. (Java is required to run MOLE and MOLE 2 successfully)

Please note the following will not apply to University Managed Desktops PC's as they have not yet been upgraded to Firefox 11.

If you use a University unmanaged desktop PC or your own PC/laptop and are using Mozilla Firefox 11 to access MOLE/MOLE 2 and you also had an older version of Java installed on your PC, you may see an error message saying "Add ons may be causing problems'
and this may cause problems in accessing MOLE/MOLE2.

The solution is to upgrade to one of the latest versions of Java.
Confusingly there are currently two available versions to choose from - Java 6 (also referred to as 1.6) and Java 7 (1.7).

We know that Java 7 is itself causing problems with some other University applications you may be using and so you should avoid installing this for the time being and instead upgrade to Java 6.

Of course you could also switch to using a different web browser such as Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.

Upgrade to Java 6 (1.6)

Before upgrading to Java 6 you must first check to see if you still have the older version of Java installed on your PC and if so you need to remove it before installing the new version. You do this in the same way you uninstall any other application on your PC, depending on which Operating System you are using.

When you have removed any existing version, go to the Java website at this link and follow the instructions given.
