Open research community

Although the uptake of open research practices is increasing, the skills required to make research more open will be new to many researchers, regardless of career stage. To facilitate and support this, the University has several community groups for researchers to get involved with.

Open Scholarship Community Sheffield (OSCS)

The Open Scholarship Community Sheffield (OSCS) is a new initiative launched in September 2023. The vision of OSCS is to be an inclusive, supportive, and active community for researchers at the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University to interact, share knowledge, and encourage good working practices such that the values, transparency and culture of Open Research become the norm.

The OSCS is part of the International Network of Open Science and Scholarship Communities (INOSC), which aims to normalise open research practices, creating space for peer-to-peer support which sits outside the formal structure of top-down policies. This will encourage collaboration between individuals, groups, institutions and organisations seeking to improve transparency and openness in academic research.
