Dr Aydın received his MA in Urban History from the University of Leicester in 2013, followed by a PhD in Sociology from the University of Southampton in 2019. During his MA and PhD, he conducted research on urban regeneration projects in London and Southampton to explore concepts of belonging, place-making and place maintenance in practice.

Dr Aydın has returned to England to conduct research on the Empty Homes Policy of England at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning through a one-year fellowship awarded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK). Dr Aydın is particularly interested in urban sociology, housing studies and social inequality.
