The Student Advice Centre is 20 years old!

The Student Advice Centre opened in September 1991 and has been helping students to help themselves for the past 20 years.

Over that time, the service has dealt with over 600 000 enquiries, 100 000 of which needed detailed advice and support from advisers. The Student Advice Centre has also contributed to the development of more student-friendly policies at institutional, local and national levels.

Over the past 20 years the team has responded to many challenges including the introduction of tuition fees and the development of the student loan system; massive changes to student housing including the redevelopment of university accommodation and the introduction of a national deposit scheme; the introduction of a Student Charter in 1995 and a huge increase in academic representation; multiple and complex changes to the student immigration system and the introduction of forms and fees for visa applications.
