GeogSoc - The Geographical Society
GeogSoc is a fantastic society to get involved in, having won Best Departmental Society and Best Society at the University in 2012. With now over 500 members, and 14 who are elected onto the committee, the society is here for the benefit of the students to help ensure that everyone has an amazing time whilst studying in Sheffield.
The committee are responsible for organising a range of some the largest society social events and activities in the University, in which last year, over 380 attend the legendary Colouring In bar crawl and 192 went on our weekend away to Berlin! These also include Fresher’s Intro Week activities, city invasions, career workshops, our ‘Apprentice’ competition, non-alcoholic events, and an End of Year Ball!
The society also promotes many different volunteering and charity projects. These have previously included running school workshops, a charity skydive and walking the GeogDog 'Nan' (who the society sponsors!), which are all focused on building your CV and giving back to the local community.
We also have a large number of sports teams in the Intramural Leagues that you are able to get involved in, such as successful hockey, football and netball teams. Last year has also seen the introduction of the intra-society tennis and badminton leagues, and our 11 a-side team going on tour!
Make sure you join our group on Facebook – just search for "Sheffield University Geography Society" or go to:

You’ll then have the opportunity to sign up at the Fresher’s Fair and at various ticket sales/events over the year.
If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions, feel free to get in touch with any of the committee members, email: geogsoc@sheffield.ac.uk or check out our noticeboard in the Café in the Geography Building.
